Description

The essential guide for the novice who wants to develop the best hockey skills, brought up-to-date for a new generation of players.

When this title was first released a decade ago, Quill & Quire called it a "valuable hockey-school-in-a-book...as slick as a slapshot." Hockey the NHL Way -- The Basics, available in five languages, quickly became the international standard for players of all ages. This fully revised and updated edition helps beginning players lay the groundwork for a successful game.

With easy-to-follow instructions and step-by-step photos of players in action, The Basics shows young athletes how to play the complete game -- from improving skating techniques to cultivating explosive offensive skills and establishing rock-solid defense and goaltending. This revised edition features new information on improving tness, preventing injuries, and dealing with mental aspects of the game.

Hockey the NHL Way: The Basics

In this revised and update edition, Hockey the NHL Way simply and succinctly lays out the fundamentals of playing hockey for the beginner. Through clear descriptions, colour photographs and sidebars, the new player is shown conditioning drills, individual skill drills, how to play as part of a team (either on defence or offence), and is given strategies on how to apply these skills as a team player. Both beginners and experienced hockey players can benefit from this book. It is an effective review, building upon individual skills the player may have already developed. The book is an accessible read, avoiding technical jargon. Both ice and roller hockey players can improve their game by using this material. In addition, it will also be helpful to new coaches and coaches of young children just beginning the game.

Sean Rossiter is the author of nine Hockey the NHL Way titles.
