Description

What haunts our hearts today may haunt us in the hereafter . . .

In future-Edo Japan, two lovers cross paths after fifty years apart. A drone-stream influencer is stalked by a spectre her online audience can't see. Trans vampires' lives intertwine in cyber-goth Paris. A non-binary chaplain serving a haunted space station becomes enamoured with the ship's AI. And the treachery and passion of a gestalt alien mind reaches critical mass for the explorer who discovered it.

With stories spanning time, galaxies, and spirits, Gothic Tales of Haunted Futures features 17 original stories, casting the indelible themes of gothic romance forward in time, to imagined futures and tomorrow's afterlives.

Featuring all-original comics, curated by award-winning author and editor S.M. Beiko.

Editorial Reviews

"The 20 expertly crafted pieces curated here vary in style, tone, and subject but always play with both the genre and reader's expectations in creative ways. Gothic Tales of Haunted Futures will be well-received by young adult fans of graphic fiction, diverse voices and Sci-Fi/fantasy. Highly Recommended." - Canadian Review of Materials

"Although all of them work individually, and many are gems, the real strength is in a full read-through... All 16 pieces are driven by emotional storytelling and the most successful are the sad ones, such as the opener "Ghost Planet," written by underground comix legend Trina Robbins. And let's celebrate the emerging creators, too, and support this valuable book." - Mike Donachie, Toronto Star

"So good! It's rare to see short comics stories so expertly crafted, with clear arcs and exciting twists, gracefully constructed. The art is as varied as it is beautiful. The mix of dark turns and happy endings leaves the reader on their toes, never knowing what to expect. Loved it." 5/5 stars. - Shea Proulx, author of ABC Monstrosity and Alice At Naptime
